Developing the Concept for the Score
When composing there are several items to consider in order to arrive at the musical concept that will work best.

- Consider the period of history of the movie. [review Association of Film Music in Unit 1] Shakespeare's day=Elizabethan Renaissance music with lutes and madrigals. 1940s=big band swing music. Present day=Almost anything. Future=modern sounds never heard before.
- Look at the location and ethnic background of the movie.
- Look at the major character or characters of the film. Use of "leitmotifs" by scoring themes associated with particular characters.
- Look at the film's overall dramatic theme. What kind of film is it? Horror? Action? Romantic? Drama?
